Dr. Francesco Massari MD, MSc, PhD, EMBA
Dr. Massari is an Associate Professor of Radiology, Neuroradiologist and Neurointerventional Surgeon at the Boston University School of Medicine, Boston, MA, USA.
Dr. Massari earned his Medical Degree, Ph.D. and Master’s Degree at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”. He completed two fellowship programs in Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology, respectively at the Medical University of South Carolina, SC, USA and University of Massachusetts, MA, USA, where he received an advanced training in Brain, Head & Neck, and Spine Interventional Neuroradiology.
His clinical practice includes both neurovascular and spinal interventional procedures. Dr. Massari has authored 70 peer-reviewed articles for scientific journals, including the illustrious New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, Stroke and Spine among others, as well as multiple medical book chapters. His research spans areas including the cerebrovascular pathology and spinal disease. He has been Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-Investigator in several international clinical and laboratory trials. He developed a new mechanical thrombectomy technique utilized during stroke patients’ treatment; named the “ARTS” technique (Aspiration-Retriever Technique for Stroke) and described the technique in a publication for Interventional Neuroradiology in 2016. Not only this study has been awarded with the cover page of this illustrious medical journal, but nowadays, it is also utilized worldwide for stroke treatment. Dr. Massari has been Principal Investigator (PI) in one of the largest international clinical study (only site in the northeast of United States) utilizing the new generation of RFA devices in the palliative treatment of spinal metastatic disease. The results of this study have been presented during the 2021 Society of Interventional Radiological (SIR) International Conference, winning the “SIR 2021 Abstract of the Year”.
Dr. Massari has presented more than 120 scientific works at several national and international medical conferences, including multiple invited talks at Neuroradiological and Neurosurgical meetings. Dr. Massari has been nominated for and won multiple awards at the American Society of Spine Radiology (ASSR) for his research on spinal minimally invasive treatments, including the prestigious “ASSR Louis A. Gilula, MD Mentor Award” in 2009 and the “ASSR Committee Award” in 2012.
Dr. Massari is active member of thirteen European and American Medical Societies. He is member of multiple scientific committees for these societies, including Clinical Practice, Meeting Organization, Abstracts and Awards, Education and Corporate Support. He is a reviewer for eight scientific journals.
Dr. Massari started in 2019 his Executive MBA program at Harvard Business School (HBS), culminated with the achievement of the HBS Alumni Status in 2022.
